Description

At Syngenta, we accelerate innovation to meet the challenges of a changing world, from climate change, soil erosion and biodiversity loss to the demands of farmers and the wider society.  We invest and innovate to transform the way crops are grown and protected to bring about positive, lasting change in agriculture.

Our employees reflect the diversity of our customers, the markets where we operate and the communities which we serve. We invite you to help us shape the future of agriculture. At Syngenta, we believe every employee has a role to play in safely feeding the world and taking care of our planet.

Postdoctoral fellow – Crop Protection Research Chemistry (m/f/d)

We are currently seeking candidates for a 2-year fixed term postdoctoral fellowship in Research Chemistry at the Crop Protection R&D center in Stein, Switzerland. This is an exciting opportunity to develop new skills while working at the cutting edge of science and innovation. At Syngenta, our work matters; we are looking for the talents of today and tomorrow.

Role Purpose:
Natural products (NPs) are molecular “special equipment” that impart survival benefits on their producers in nature. Due to their evolved functions to modulate biology, these privileged metabolites offer new starting leads for the discovery of innovative agrochemicals and are increasingly represented in the modern crop protection market. Examples of NP-derived agrochemicals are the recently approved semi-synthetic active ingredients fenpicoxamid and afidopyropen, and the synthetic mimics of strigolactone phytohormones for potential sustainable agronomical applications.
As a postdoctoral fellow in Research Chemistry, you will join a multidisciplinary team to investigate NPs that display modes of action of relevance to plant health. You will contribute to identify starting points of high interest for agrochemical research and will be responsible for the design and development of state-of-the-art synthetic routes to access samples of NPs and/or structural analogs for early biological evaluation.
