The Senior Customer Support Officer will join our Back Office team in Basel, Switzerland and closely collaborate with the different units of the Banking department, back office experts in Basel and our international representative offices as well as internal IT service suppliers. By joining the Basel back office team: You will collaborate with colleagues in our Basel, Hong Kong and Mexico City offices in a unique Back Office environment. You will process back office operations and also use your business analysis skills to contribute to a wide range of projects relating to process optimisation. You will have the opportunity to follow closely the current global expansion of the BIS and the challenges and opportunities that this presents in Back Office. Principal accountabilities: The responsibilities will include Back Office operations and controls tasks as well as an analysis and coordination function on the various stages of projects or continuous improvement initiatives. Support initiatives of the Banking Department and help designing special banking operations. Identify and propose processes and system improvements/re-engineering. Document processes and procedures as the need arises. Represent Back Office in cross-departmental projects on system and process enhancements. Provide business analysis and user support for documentation of Back Office requirements and enhancement requests. Assist with the development, configuration, testing and maintenance of Back Office tools and applications. Analyse the technical and business impact of process and IT changes. Ensure conformity with the best market practices and the rules set by Compliance and Internal Audit. Exhibit a good working knowledge of all Back Office processes especially with regard to instrument and transaction processing, resolution of confirmation breaks, cash settlement and cash reconciliations, Support static data maintenance and other operational tasks throughout Back Office. Qualifications, skills, and experience: University degree or equivalent professional experience. Proven experience in a similar role in a financial institution. Knowledge of banking business practices (financial instruments, trading platforms, market infrastructures, etc.) Experience with SWIFT messaging formats. Self-starter, with proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Team player with strong interpersonal skills; comfortable engaging with staff at all levels. Ability to cope with a variety of tasks, to work methodically and accurately in time sensitive environments. Strong communication skills including excellent written and spoken English. It is the role of the Deputy General Manager to deliver that mission by assisting the General Manager in the management of the Bank and acting as their deputy; they will represent the BIS at the most senior levels amongst the central banking and financial supervisory communities. In addition, they will have overall responsibility for the Bank's risk management and ethics and conduct functions and have oversight of the Bank’s finance operations. Together with the General Manager they will lead the Bank’s Executive Committee (ExCo) and contribute to the strategic planning and general management of the BIS. Purpose of the job: The Deputy General Manager of the Bank for International Settlements performs the following key roles: As stipulated in the BIS Statutes, “assist the General Manager in the management of the Bank and will exercise the responsibilities of the General Manager in his (her) absence”. Effectively represent the BIS at the most senior levels amongst the central banking and financial supervisory communities. Have overall responsibility for the Bank's risk management and ethics and conduct functions, and have oversight responsibility of the Bank’s finance operations. Together with the General Manager lead the Bank’s Executive Committee (ExCo) and contribute to the strategic planning and general management of the BIS. Principal accountabilities: Work in close coordination with the General Manager and, in his/her absence, manage the BIS successfully and chair and guide the Bank’s top management group. Chair economic discussions and meetings of central bank Governors and senior experts from central banks with efficiency and impact. Officially represent the BIS in its international environment and negotiate effectively with the Bank’s counterparties. Operational activities and oversight Responsibility for all aspects of the Bank’s risk management and ethics and conduct functions. Oversight and follow-up of the Bank’s finances. Member of the Bank’s Executive Committee Strategy development and management of Bank-wide initiatives. Contribute creatively and collegially to the development of strategies and policies for the BIS. Take innovative approaches to promoting the Bank’s future development as a global institution. Chair Bank-wide committees and working groups. Qualification: An excellent academic track record with a postgraduate degree (master’s degree or PhD) from a university of international standing. Work experience: Experience as a Governor or Deputy Governor at a central bank or equivalent position at an international financial organisation. A visionary leader with a track record of setting and implementing strategy and transformation. Fully familiar with issues faced by the global central banking and financial supervisory/regulatory community and must possess analytical skills and in-depth knowledge of macroeconomic and financial stability issues. Strong experience in issues related to risk management, accounting and auditing. A proven track record of delivering excellence through others and leading diverse, high performing institutions. Skills: Experienced and inspiring leader. Proven independence and personal integrity. Extensive track record of interacting with governors and equivalent senior leaders across a broad and diverse range of public and private organisations. Excellent interpersonal, diplomatic, collaborative and influencing skills. Ability to provide a collegial atmosphere to stakeholders and colleagues. Directs and supervises the activities of staff members in the middle office in the areas of performance and risk measurement, reporting, control, analysis, business development, middle office operations, as well as support of internal and external clients. Development, implementation and operation of systems, processes and procedures for control of the valuation of collateral instruments. 3. Analysis Support of front-office functions in the daily profit and loss analysis process. Support of Banking management, front office functions and committees in their investment decision making by performing risk return studies on investment portfolios as well as asset and liability studies. Ad-hoc quantitative research to support Banking management, front-office functions and external clients. 4. Operations Coordination, performance and assistance in various operations including the daily amendment process, profit transfers, share subscriptions and dividend payments to BIS shareholders. Performance of fund administration function for third party asset management including injections and withdrawals, reconciliations and fee invoicing. 5. Support of business development activities Coordination of and contributions to the development of new banking products and services. Provides secretariat function to the New Banking Activity Committee (NBAC) as well as. support to external clients on quantitative questions. Contributions to knowledge sharing events organised by the Banking Department. 6. Committee participation and business relationships Participation in a number of Committees including New Banking Activity Committee, Third-party Asset Management Committee, and Management Accounting Coordinating Function. Observer in the Pension Fund Portfolio Committee and the Pension Fund Committee. Management of relationships with external service providers in the context of outsourced asset management mandates for the own funds and third-party asset management products. Acts as the principal operational point of contact between the Banking Department and Risk Management and Finance on different topics. 7. Staff responsibilities Leads, motivates, and develops staff. Takes accountability for all HR matters in the team including recruitment, transfers and promotions. Carries out performance review discussions with staff.
