The Director, Computer Aided Drug Design is responsible for structural design and computational R&D support to Ridgeline’s portfolio companies. The director oversees a team of CADD scientists, machine learning specialists and data scientists supporting the entire drug discovery process from hit finding to candidate selection. RESPONSIBILITIES Leading and contributing to design and execution of the computational strategy, activities, and infrastructure for Ridgeline Discovery Engine-supported biotech companies Design and optimize novel drug candidates by integrating protein modeling, molecular docking based on X-ray or homology models, ligand-based design, library design, diversity analysis, conformational analysis, and pharmacophore modeling Contribute to the data science strategy of establishing pipelines, exploring new artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, and developing new computational approaches making use of machine learning, or cloud-based solutions Research into new computational R&D tools and methods relevant to the drug discovery and development process Engage with global research, industry, and standards development communities to identify and implement new technologies and best practices QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D. in computational chemistry, chemistry, molecular modeling, structural biology, or related field with a computational emphasis and at least 5-10 years of experience directly applied to projects in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical sector Demonstrated track record of leveraging digital techniques to drive drug discovery projects or impacting hit finding activities in a drug discovery environment A comprehensive understanding of data mining and visualization, ligand, and structure-based design, physics-based and machine learning-based methods, conformational analysis, and pharmacophore development Solid background in protein structure and experience in tools for protein analysis/design Expert knowledge of modern computational drug design packages and tools, with an emphasis on molecular dynamics, structure prediction and analysis, virtual screening/docking, and free energy determination Understanding of the antibody discovery and optimization process is a plus Programming experience is a plus Highly self-motivated, intellectually curious individual Eager to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary start-up environment Strong team player WHAT WE CURRENTLY OFFER Offices: Our well-equipped laboratories and offices are located at the Technologiepark, a premier address for early-stage start-ups in Basel. RESPONSIBILITIES Contribute to managing CROs and internal research programs Working with internal team and founders to build companies and recruit top talent Identifying and developing novel and state of the art multi-cell assay formats Leading and mentoring a lab composed of highly skilled scientists (Senior Scientists, Scientists and Research Associates) Managing a matrixed team Assessing the landscape for new opportunities that could be prosecuted by Ridgeline Novel target/technology identification Communicating with founders, board members, and Ridgeline leadership team QUALIFICATIONS PhD and 3+ years of PostDoc in Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, Medicine, or other relevant disciplines 5+ years’ work experience in pharma industry or biotech Proven track record in cancer research Proven track record in drug discovery, with an emphasis in biologics therapeutics Experience in managing and mentoring direct reports Ability to work with data scientists and to utilize cancer genomic platforms for data exploration and analysis as needed including cBioportal, DepMAP Project Leader experience Proficient at a range of molecular and cell biology techniques including but not limited to culturing primary and cancerous cells, RT-qPCR, Western blotting, ELISAs, FACS, high content cell imaging, CRISPR engineering Experience in establishing and performing robust cell-based screening assays for development of therapeutics Ability to work and make decisions independently Able to work in a highly flexible environment Fluent in English (spoken and written) WHAT WE CURRENTLY OFFER Offices: Our well-equipped laboratories and offices are located at the Tech Park, a premier address for early-stage start-ups in Basel. Ridgeline Discovery is looking for an (Associate) Director of Biologics Discovery. Ridgeline Discovery , a Versant Ventures Discovery Engine, creates and operates Versant-financed innovative biotech companies in partnership with entrepreneurs, industry, and leading academics across Europe. In recent years, Ridgeline has assembled an international team of >45 highly experienced drug discovery professionals and built and operated several new successful companies, including Black Diamond Therapeutics (NASDAQ: BDTX), Bright Peak Therapeutics and Monte Rosa Therapeutics (NASDAQ: GLUE). Ridgeline is currently expanding its capabilities in Basel to support further company creation efforts in small molecules, biologics, and gene/cell therapy with focus on oncology and immunology. The (Associate) Director of Biologics Discovery will further strengthen our team by contributing to the development of new biotech companies. You will help increase the biological understanding of programs as well as developing the strategy required to help propel our companies forward. RESPONSIBILITIES Managing CROs and internal research programs Working with founders to build companies and recruit top talent Identifying and building novel assays Managing a matrixed team Assessing the landscape for new opportunities that could be prosecuted by Ridgeline Expertise in antibody and other protein-based therapeutics Protein engineering in general with focus on bi-/multispecific formats Novel target/technology identification Communicating with founders, board members, and Ridgeline leadership team QUALIFICATIONS PhD in biotechnology, biochemistry, biology, pharmacology, or a related field 6+ years’ experience in biotech or industry Proven track record of drug discovery experience Project Leader experience Experience in working with antibody/large molecule identification technologies Experience in high throughput screening and candidate selection processes Experience in protein engineering including but not limited to linker, building block and scaffold design of bi-/multispecific therapeutic formats Experience in running routine assays for development of a therapeutic Experience working with primary (immune) cells is a plus Know-how in design and evaluation proper experimental design and ability to work independently Able to work in a highly flexible environment Good knowledge of English (spoken and written) WHAT WE CURRENTLY OFFER Offices: Our well-equipped laboratories and offices are located at the Technologiepark, a premier address for early-stage start-ups in Basel.
